Where this rumor came from

According to the Chicago Sun Times, this rumor pertaining to Lonzo Ball and the Chicago Bulls goes back a ways to before the trade deadline. That report from the Chicago Sun Times also indicated that the Ball camp wanted to make it known that the Windy City was one of Lonzo’s preferred destinations if the Lakers wanted to move him.

The two known destinations for Ball now include the Bulls and the New York Knicks. Both of those are the big market traditional franchises that need point guard help to get through what could be two long rebuilding processes. It was known, though, that the Lakers were open to moving really any pieces of their young core at the deadline.

If Ball felt like he could be a better fit with the Knicks or Bulls than he is alongside superstar LeBron James and the Lakers, this could be a good move for both sides. Acquiring Ball feels like a better move for the Bulls than it would’ve been for acquiring KCP and Beasley in exchange for Parker.

The Lakers could still be one of the more active teams in free agency and on the trade market this summer. With Johnson and now former head coach Luke Walton out of the picture, this Lakers team could look a lot different next season. Ball could be one of those players that is on his way out of Los Angeles soon too.
