One of the more intriguing point guard options for the Chicago Bulls in free agency this off-season comes with the 30-year-old to-be restricted free agent currently with the Minnesota Timberwolves Derrick Rose. He’s also one of the best value point guards in the NBA with his current contract sitting under $3 million for the year with Minnesota.
A resurgent season from Rose places him among the more attractive free agent options for the summer across the NBA in general. It just makes a lot of sense for him to land in the Windy City since he’s a Chicago, IL, native and spent the few glory years of his career before knee injuries started to take hold with the Bulls.
So far this season, Rose has a player efficiency rating hovering around 20 and averages 18.0 points per game and 4.3 assists. Until Rose was announced to be out for the season with the Timberwolves on March 23 thanks to an elbow injury that forced him to get surgery, he was a legitimate Sixth Man of the Year award candidate.
However, the injury issues that just seem to keep piling up for Rose could keep the Bulls away from him in the free agent market. In the past six seasons, Rose has only played in more than 51 games in a single season two times. Four of the past eight seasons also saw him play in less than 40 games. This is a risk the Bulls need to evaluate with Rose.
