3. Cody Martin

  • School: University of Nevada
  • Height: 6’7″
  • Weight: 190 lbs.
  • Age: 23

Cody Martin is one of the most underrated NBA prospects in all of college basketball. He’s old (23) and he plays for a mid-major school, so he often goes unmentioned when talking about NBA-caliber point guards. But with Martin’s size, court vision and defensive upside, he’s one of the most exciting NBA prospects in college hoops.

Martin’s jumper isn’t great (shooting 35.6 percent from deep on 2.7 attempts per game this season), but his mechanics aren’t bad. He has a smooth, high release, which has me optimistic about his potential growth as a shooter at the NBA level.

Cody also does a really nice job of using his size to post up his defender and find cutting teammates. I’m a sucker for a big point guard who can post up, and Martin fits that mold perfectly.

On the season, Martin is averaging 11.7 points per game on an efficient 49.8 percent shooting from the field to go along with 5.1 assists and 4.5 rebounds.

Guard play is extremely important come tournament time, so if Nevada wants to make another deep run in this year’s NCAA Tournament, they’ll have to rely on Cody to take them to the next level.
