4. Markus Howard
- School: Marquette University
- Height: 5’11”
- Weight: 175 lbs.
- Age: 20
Markus Howard is one of the most fun college basketball players in the entire country. He’s arguably the most electric scorer in the nation, he pulls up from anywhere on the court and he’s leading a talented Marquette team. If you don’t know the name Markus Howard, it’s time you learn it.
On the season, Howard is averaging 25 points, four assists and four rebounds per game. The frustrating part about his game as a point guard is that he averages as many turnovers per game (four) as assists. But no one expects Markus Howard to be an elite facilitator, he’s a score-first point guard and he’s not shy about it.
In the 2018-19 season, Howard is shooting a ridiculous 8.6 threes per game, but he’s making an even more ridiculous 40.8 percent of them. Those are absurd numbers for a college kid.
Howard’s height (5’11”) is cause for real concern, but guys like Kemba Walker (6’1″) find a way to make it work at the NBA level, so why can’t Howard? Of course, 6’1″ is different than 5’11” and Kemba is special, but Maybe Markus Howard will be special too.
Marquette will face Murray State in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this year. The point guard matchup in this one (Ja Morant vs. Howard) will surely be one of the most fun point guard battles of the tournament. You won’t want to miss it.
