Finding the right solution for the Chicago Bulls back court is a big key for this summer for the front office, even if it is through the 2019 NBA Draft.

In terms of what the Chicago Bulls could do in the 2019 NBA Draft, landing a point guard is about as good as it will get. And the best point guard that really any team, not just the Chicago Bulls, could land in this NBA Draft is the emerging elite sophomore talent from the Murray State Racers Ja Morant. What Morant is doing for Murray State makes a usually non-followed team one of the more entertaining squads in college hoops this season.

You’d figure that the front office of the Chicago Bulls is also intrigued by what Morant brings to the table for this NBA Draft. He’s a top flight athlete, no pun intended, that could likely make a very positive instant impact for the Chicago Bulls.

Unless this franchise has the opportunity to select one of the handful of standout freshmen from the Duke Blue Devils in the 2019 NBA Draft, looking the way of Morant makes a ton of sense. But, the likes of elite Duke talents with forward Zion Williamson, wing Cam Reddish, and shooting guard R.J. Barrett present some obvious draft targets in the Windy City too.

The latest version of the 2019 NBA Mock Draft from nbadraft.net has Morant falling at No. 2 in the first round to the Phoenix Suns. He’s likely to be mixed into a pool of prospects among the top five draft lottery selections along with the aforementioned three Duke star players.

However, one of the biggest reasons why the Chicago Bulls and Morant are such a natural fit in the Windy City is the need for this team at point guard. Not only do the Bulls have a big need in the rotation for the back court in general, the starting five needs an athletic point guard capable of commanding the floor and creating his own offense.

Morant is a dynamic playmaker that commands the Murray State offense now with ease. There are some kinks in his game that he needs to workout in the next year or two with some rough passes and frequent turnovers. But, he does live above the rim and create his own looks to productively hit shots from mostly anywhere on the offensive end.

Third-year former Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Kris Dunn just isn’t getting it done at this point for the Bulls. Either the front office needs to find a new long-term solution and pair him with Dunn, or look in another direction entirely. A player like Morant that averages 24.6 points per game, 10.0 assists, and 5.5 rebounds to go along with a sparkling 31.8 player efficiency rating makes a ton of sense for GarPax this summer.
