Most notable numbers

Digging in a bit deeper to the scoring trends for LaVine this season with the Chicago Bulls is important to understand how this team ebbs and flows offensively. LaVine does get to the free-throw line more than about any other guard or wing player for the Bulls. He’s getting to the line nearly six times per game. He’s efficient from the free throw line this season too.

In today’s style of play offensively in the NBA, knocking down your shots from the free-throw line and from beyond the arc are pivotal for potentially ball dominant guards like LaVine. His free-throw shooting slipped up a bit of late, but he’s still shooting about five percent better from the line than the Bulls team average and is fourth on the team in terms of percentage this season behind guys like Lauri Markkanen and Otto Porter Jr.

We’ve already touched on a few of the more significant numbers for LaVine. But, there are a few that are very key to his elevated success this season with the Bulls. His road play isn’t as strong as his play at home this season, but his three-point shooting seems to be saving him. The split stats show that LaVine’s offensive rating is four points lower on the road than at home, but he relies more on the three-point shot.

LaVine is shooting better than 40 percent from three-point range on the road, while just under 34 percent at home. Considering LaVine relies heavily on the three-ball, that’s a significant number. A good example of that stat in action is the Bulls one-point victory over the Orlando Magic last month on the road where LaVine hit five of his six looks from beyond the arc. On the other hand, LaVine hit just 33 percent of his looks in the loss on the road early this week to the Indiana Pacers.
