5. Kris Dunn outscores Nikola Vucevic in first game back
Another step in the very long rebuild taking place for the Magic was attempted by acquiring the former first overall pick and point guard Markelle Fultz from the Philadelphia 76ers. If Fultz doesn’t work out in the back court for the Magic, it’s hard to tell where the franchise will go from there.
While both the Chicago Bulls and Magic are in the rebuild stage at this point of the season, both franchises are at very different steps in that process. The Bulls are just beginning the rebuild with a lot of turnover in the coaching staff and questions surrounding the front office and what direction it was headed in.
However, if the Bulls can stick to building around young emerging stars like power forward Lauri Markkanen and rookie center Wendell Carter Jr., then things could work out soon enough. There is one player, though, that has a ton of question marks surrounding his game now. Former Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Kris Dunn needs to show some improvement down the stretch if he wants a spot to stick around in the Windy City this summer.
In this first matchup back against the Magic, Dunn and the Bulls will have to deal with shutting down the All-Star big man Nikola Vucevic. Dunn is averaging slightly under 12.0 points per game this season while Vucevic has more than 20.0. If Dunn wants to get off on the right foot out of the All-Star Break, taking advantage of a thin Magic back court and outscoring the star Vucevic is a great way to do it.
