Chicago Bulls: 5 reasons “tanking for Zion Williamson” is the right move
3. Inside scoring ability a nice compliment
The Bulls can thrive right now off the ability of rising star power forward Lauri Markkanen and newly acquired small forward Otto Porter Jr. hitting their looks effectively from beyond the arc. Working in and out with some sizable players that present mismatches against the opposing defenders can help a team win in today’s NBA.
It’s not like Zion Williamson doesn’t ever attempt three-point shots, but he prefers to get his looks from the field where he excels the most. That area of the field where Zion excels the most seems to be in and around the rim. His elite leaping ability and overwhelming strength when driving the lane are good reasons why he keeps to that area.
Yet, the different dynamic that would bring for the Bulls offense could take the potency of this team’s scoring to a whole new level. Chicago doesn’t have much versatility to the offense right now, since most of it thrives either off of the driving ability of a streaky shooting guard Zach LaVine or the deep shooting ability of Markkanen and Porter Jr.
Most of all, Chicago is missing that dynamic playmaker that just possesses the ability to overwhelm the opposing defense like what LeBron brings to the Lakers or Giannis Antetokounmpo for the Milwaukee Bucks. That’s why most teams are so exciting about the prospect of getting to select him in the upcoming NBA Draft.
