1. Still developing

Potentially the most encouraging sign to the cause of Lauri Markkenen developing into a potential star in the NBA, like Porzingis and Doncic were already able to do, is that his improvement isn’t rapid but it is apparent. Markkenen could be the type of developing talent that takes three or four years before we can start to see where his true ceiling lies.

It’s hard to tell at this point where Markkenen’s ceiling stops at since there is so much inconsistency surrounding the Bulls coaching staff and front office. Once Chicago finds some direction to this franchise, Markkanen could breakthrough and reach that level of stardom most of this fan base knows he could be bound for.

The special offensive versatility and shot creation that Markkanen brings to the table is something that rarely comes along in the NBA. It also fits the trend of where this game is going, with bigs that have the ability to play at numerous positions on the floor. Markkanen is getting a higher usage rate, more looks at the free-throw line, and shooting more from deep in his second year.

As long as Markkanen continues to maintain a high level of efficiency while assuming a larger role with the Bulls offense, his rise to prominence will keep. While Markkanen hasn’t reached that point of prominence that he can play all over the floor like a Kevin Durant, LeBron James, or Paul George, he can handle the ball like Aldridge or Porzingis.
