Former Chicago Bulls prodigal son, D-Rose has UC crowd chanting “MVP” in homecoming game at the United Center.

The Chicago Bulls took a brutal beating 119-94 to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the United Center in a return home game for former Bull Derrick Rose.  Who has been having quite the comeback year for Minnesota this year in his 10th year in the league.

As he has averaged 18.5 points on 48.5% from the field and besides having a lot of the explosiveness and gaining a lot of the confidence back he once had, he has also added the three point arsenal to his attack.  Always a weakness, he has shot a career-high 46.9% from beyond the arc going into Wednesday nights game.

While also adding in 4.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds and his field goal percentage being the highest since his MVP season, Rose has been putting up numbers that can make him just the second player in NBA history to win the Sixth Man of the Year award after winning the Most Valuable Player.

While that continued Wednesday night, as Rose went for 24 points on 11-of-19 shooting in 38 minutes.  Also adding in eight assists, three rebounds and two steals in his former home building against his former team the day after Christmas.

Here showing some of that vintage explosiveness and impossible like shots he used to regular make for the Bulls against opposing teams at the United Center, now doing it as an opposing player.

Having a lot of his family in attendance at the UC made the game feel extra special for the former MVP to put up those types of numbers against the team that abandoned and gave up on him like many did just two to three years ago.

It’s rare you see us give a player of the game honors to a player on the opposing team, but with the game Rose had against his former team on Wednesday night it only feels right to do so.  Especially with no Bulls player being on the plus side for the game and being in the type of difficulties they’re in right now too.

It almost felt like a home game for the former No. 1 overall draft pick against his former team I’m sure too.  As the home crowd even gave several, “MVP chants,” a few times throughout the game for their formal prodigal son.

As Rose can see from that, there is still plenty of Chicago that still has love for him and whether it’s next season or later down the line.  Maybe there’s even a slight chance he can one day once again put on a Bulls uniform and perhaps maybe even lead them to yet another championship in the way that LeBron James did for Cleveland once he returned to the Cavaliers.
