Chicago Bulls are showing that they care about Kris Dunn
Point guard Kris Dunn hosted his third annual Kris Dunn day at New London High School, Connecticut. There was a special visitor from the Chicago Bulls who was in attendance.
A lot of Chicago Bulls fans weren’t happy when the organization traded Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Kris Dunn was one of the players that the Bulls got in return.
A year later, Lauri Markkanen has showed the Bulls that he’s the real deal. Zach LaVine recently got a big contract. When you think about this upcoming Bulls season, a lot of people will say that they are excited to watch Markkanen and LaVine play.
There’s one player that people are not really talking about, and that’s Kris Dunn. I quickly became a fan of Dunn after watching him play last season with the Bulls.
This is a guy that you don’t want to mess with. He’s defense got me out of my seat a bunch of times last season. When Dunn steps onto the court, he has one goal and that’s to do whatever it takes to get a win.
In his first season with the Bulls, Dunn averaged 13.4 points, six assists, and two steals per game. He showed that he can be the point guard of the future for the Bulls.
By now, everyone knows Dunn’s childhood story. He was born in New London, Connecticut. Dunn is very loyal to his community, and for the third straight year he decided to give back to New London. He recently had his third annual Kris Dunn day at New London High School.
Dunn gave 200 free Adidas backpacks and school supplies to kids. There was a special visitor that was in attendance. Bulls associate head coach Jim Boylen was at New London High School to support Dunn.
Don Amore from Hartford Courant talked to Jim Boylen about why he traveled to Connecticut to support Dunn.
"“It’s character,” Boylen told Amore. “And character matters. He’s one of our foundational players. This program he has here is awesome, to sustain this for three years, and it makes sense to me because he’s a great teammate, a great kid. You can see it.”"
Before the 2018 NBA draft, the Chicago Sun-Times had an article about Dunn. The article basically said that the Chicago Bulls weren’t happy with Dunn’s work habits during the offseason.
Don Amore asked Jim Boylen about that article.
"“I don’t know how that got generated,” Boylen told Amore. “He’s always done everything we’ve asked him to do, everything I’ve asked him to do, everything Fred Hoiberg’s asked him to do.”"
Actions speak louder than words, and Jim Boylen supporting Dunn meant two things to me. One was that the Chicago Bulls don’t want Dunn to think that the organization doesn’t have his back.
For Boylen to take time out of his offseason to come support Dunn showed the team really cares about their point guard. The Bulls want the public to know that Kris means a lot to the organization.
The second thing was what Boylen said about Dunn how he’s “one our of our foundational players.” That speaks volume. For Boylen to say that, it shows that the team still values Dunn.
I feel like Dunn doesn’t get enough credit, and that’s just unfair. Too see what Kris Dunn is doing for his community just shows you what kind of a person he is.
