The Chicago Bulls made a huge trade this past summer by trading Jimmy Butler. Did the organization make the right decision?

This past summer the Chicago Bulls decided that they were going in a different direction. The last couple of years the team was stuck in the middle. The organization finally decided that they were going to rebuild. So in order to jump start the rebuild they traded their franchise player in Jimmy Butler to Minnesota. That trade is still being talked about by the media and Bulls fans.

The night they traded Jimmy Butler the national media and a lot of Bulls fans were trashing the Bulls for making the trade. A fan even started a GoFundMe to have a billboard in Chicago to show that fans have had enough. The billboard became a reality.

Now it seems like the mood has changed

A lot of people in the media and the fans actually think that the trade was good for the Bulls. The mood has changed largely because of the play of Kris Dunn and Lauri Markkanen, both who the Bulls got in the trade.

In 27 games this season, Dunn is averaging 13 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists. I didn’t really watch Dunn play last season with the Timberwolves so I didn’t really know his game. All I knew is that he loves to compete. Dunn has had a really good season for the Bulls. He’s been playing with a lot of confidence and has that swagger about him. He looks like a promising player for this team.

In 28 games this season, rookie Lauri Markkanen is averaging 14.7 points, and 7.7 rebounds. Markkanen was drafted out of Arizona and is having a terrific first year in the pro. I thought he was going to be Nikola Mirotic 2.0, but he has proven me wrong. He can also attack his defender and he also plays really good defense. He is a very athletic player with a ton of potential.

If you don’t follow me on Twitter, I highly recommend you do. But if you do you know that I’m a big Jimmy Butler fan. Butler is one of my favorite players to watch and I just love the way he plays. I really wanted him to win a championship in Chicago, so when he was traded I wasn’t happy about it.

So did the Bulls win the trade?

My answer is that I don’t know yet and here is why. I will say looking at it now that it was a trade that both teams needed to make. I can’t make a decision if the Bulls won the trade because Zach LaVine hasn’t played yet.

A big reason why the Bulls made the trade was because LaVine was part of the deal. He is a very athletic player. LaVine is still recovering from ACL surgery, and you don’t know how he is going to come back. I remember a player that played for the Bulls who was very athletic, and then had ACL surgery and never came back the same.

Let’s also not forget that the Bulls traded their own pick as part of the deal. I think you could’ve kept the pick because you traded away the best player in the deal. I just don’t have an answer about who won the trade. Maybe there is no clear winner in the trade and both teams benefited from it. I definitely know that fans will be talking about that trade for a long time.
