3. Is Fred Hoiberg the right man for the job?

We’ve been thinking it since he took the job.

Don’t kid yourself and say you’re a Hoiberg loyalist. Through the Isaiah Thomas hissy fit, the lack-of-control during Rondo-gate and the bland 83-81 record, nothing this guy does really fills me with confidence.

While there’s probably a few holdouts on Team Better Off Fred, I wonder if this guy can bring home a banner. After all, nothing screams out Phil Jackson or Steve Kerr with Hoiberg.

This team has been a mess since Tom Thibodeau received the GarPax canning. With an overall similar roster, Thibs finished 50-32 in 2014-15, only for Hoiberg to lead a team with another year of Jimmy Butler‘s progression to a playoff miss and a 42-40 record.

I guess he made the playoffs last year for what it’s worth. However, they were the freakin’ 8-seed in a weak Eastern Conference. They had Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade, Jimmy Butler and Robin Lopez. I fully believe that teams is at least the No. 4 seed under Thibs.

Hoiberg is only Gar Forman’s second hired head coach since taking over the general manager role in 2009. I can’t hang my hat on Gar making a good decision, but I’d hope he’ll really evaluate who leads this team going forward.

Next: Bulls still have two major lineup problems

If this team is as bad as it looks, is Hoiberg the man you want leading your top 2018 pick in his early years? If their guy has superstar talent, I need to know Hoiberg is capable of molding that talent.
