Former Chicago Bulls of the past: Where are they now?
Luol Deng
Luol Deng was once a reliable stalwart and fan-favorite for the Bulls. He spent 10 seasons in Chicago before the Bulls traded him to Cleveland during the 2013-14 season.
Playing through Chicago’s 2000s rebuild and the heart of the new Baby Bulls, Deng sits towards the top of most of the Bulls’ leaderboards. He’s top five for the Bulls in total points, steals, field goals and minutes, and is in the top 10 in almost every major statistical category.
After the 2013-14 season, Deng signed with the Miami Heat and returned to the playoffs in his second year with the Heat in 2016. Following Miami’s exit in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, he signed a monstrous four-year, $72 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers where he currently plays. He only played in 56 games last season and averaged a disappointing 7.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on 38.7 percent shooting.
Deng, once a Sudanese refugee himself, has continued to do a charity work in South Sudan and for Sudanese refugees around the world. He has also spoken out about the United States’ travel ban under Donald Trump’s administration. In 2014, Deng won the NBA’s J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, given to players who demonstrate commitment to service in the community.
