“I am Trying to Break Your Heart” by Wilco

"I’d always thought that if I held you tightly You’d always love me like you did back then Then I fell asleep and the city kept blinking What was I thinking when I let you back in?"

Kicking us off is one of Chicago’s own musical talents. Spanning a little over seven minutes, Jeff Tweedy and company bring us through the mind of GarPax.

It would’ve been one thing if they didn’t keep punching fans in the gut, but they just kept it rolling. Each hour, starting when the trade came to fruition, was increasingly painful.

“Butler is gone”

Ouch.

“The No. 16 is also headed to Minnesota.”

Ouch.

“The Bulls are picking Lauri Markkanen at No. 16”

Double ouch.

This trade felt like Gar Forman was actively trying to break hearts.

While it’s understandable to trade Butler, the package and ensuing pick lacked any logic. Markkanen would’ve made sense on a fringe contender looking for an additional shooting talent, but not phase one of a rebuild.

Leaving us with hopes of another championship, the Bulls front office opted to instead kind-of blow it up? Actually, they still have some dumb pieces. We’ll get to that in a minute.
