Oregon’s Tyler Dorsey

2016-17 season: 38 games played, 14.7 points on 51 percent shooting inside the arc (42.4 percent from 3 on 5.3 attempts per game), 3.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game

Like P.J. Dozier (who we discussed earlier), Oregon’s Tyler Dorsey helped his draft stock during the NCAA Tournament this past spring and like Frank Jackson, he had a solid showing at the NBA Draft Combine that improved that stock even further.

Statistically speaking, Dorsey is one of the best shooters from long range in this class. Knowing what you probably already know about the Bulls, shooting is something that must be address for them heading into next season if they’re looking to improve on this past season’s mediocre run and poor shooting from deep.

(Best-case scenario) comparable players (via The Ringer’s NBA Draft Guide): Dallas Mavericks guard Seth Curry and NBA journeyman Gary Neal

Dorsey can definitely become a good shooter like the younger Curry in the NBA showed this past season. He’s not an elite creator for others, but he can contribute without scoring offensively at times. That showed at the combine in Chicago. He’s not a specimen in terms of his measurements, but he’s 21 years old and has enough size to be a second-unit piece that can become a rotation staple.

What does Draft Express think of Dorsey?

"Tyler Dorsey showed many of the same things we wrote about in day one of the NBA Combine, posting another efficient stat-line of 18 points on just eight shots. He helped himself by demonstrating his scoring prowess in both half-court and transition situations, both as a driver and shooter, as well as moving the ball, competing defensively, and playing under control for the most part. Shot-makers who can come off the bench and light it up are very much en vogue in today’s NBA, and Dorsey’s solid measurements (6’5 in shoes, albeit with just a 6’5 wingspan) and outstanding production this past season in helping Oregon make the Final Four make a strong candidate to hear his name called in the second round.
