5 Takeaways from Chicago Bulls exit interviews
Bobby Portis feels grown
"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. – 1 Corinthians 13:11, NIV"
Bobby Portis is two seasons into his NBA career and he feels like he’s done enough. He is ready to to stop talking, thinking and acting like a child.
I understand his perspective. He’s already won the Las Vegas Summer League Championship. It doesn’t get any bigger or better than that.
When you’ve climbed to the top of the very highest mountain, you must reach for the stars. When you’ve dived to the depths of the deepest ocean, you must drill to the earth’s molten core.
Bobby believes that he has the stars in his grasp, that he plays with the fire of lava. He has withstood the pressure of summer league’s and has emerged as the diamond.
Oh, and don’t forget that he had that one good game in the playoffs. You know, that one good game. One. After Nikola Mirotic failed to show up and deliver in this series, Bobby stepped up big time. Once.
I’m aware, no third-year player is going to take his cuts in Las Vegas during the sweltering heat of summer while the rest of his teammates are on boats, in Europe, or training in Hollywood with the best trainers that money can buy. However, if there is one picture of Bobby on a boat that hits social media and not at least 50 of him in the weight room, working with trainers, or studying film on how to improve his defense, then he should find his way to Vegas.
