A History of the TNT Bulls
Game 2: NateRob lives to kill your streak
Basketball-Reference box score.
It’s hard to imagine after we’ve experienced the antics of this season, but there was a time not so long ago that the New York Knicks won 13 games in a row and ended the season as the 2nd seed with a 54-28 record. On April 11, 2013, just two days after they had clinched a division title, their winning streak ended at the hands of greatest-Bull-of-all-time-in-his-eyes, Nate Robinson.
Along with Rose, Chicago was without Noah and Taj Gibson, but the Knicks were missing Tyson Chandler, Amar’e Stoudemire, Kenyon Martin, Kurt Thomas, Marcus Camby and Rasheed Wallace. Ball may not lie, but neither does left foot surgery.
With only nine players available, the Knicks started behind the eight ball, but 36 points from Carmelo Anthony and another 28 from J.R. Smith helped them to take Chicago to overtime. Anthony had the chance to seal the game in regulation, but missed an open 19-footer. After that, it was Nate’s time.
Frank Isola of the New York Daily News summed it up best with this description of Robinson’s outing:
"“Nate Robinson scored 35 points off the bench, including eight in OT. The diminutive and freakishly athletic Robinson did what he does best: scoring, running his mouth and scoring some more. He is a rare combination of talent and obnoxiousness.”"
Robinson outscored his former team by himself in overtime, adding another game to the streak just 16 days before he would score 34 to will the Bulls to a jaw-dropping triple overtime victory in Game 4 of the first round against the Brooklyn Nets. (Due to a contract I made with my conscience, I have to mention that this game happened in everything I write.)
