Game 19: Two streaks enter, one streak leaves

Basketball-Reference box score.

Going into this game, the Golden State Warriors had gone an NBA-record 146 regular season games without losing twice in a row. To make matters worse, Kevin Durant had gone down with a leg injury just a few days prior, and the doubts had started to fly from talking heads everywhere. The pressure was on for the Dubs. They did not deliver.

The Bulls won 94-87, holding the Warriors to their lowest point total since March 19, 2016, almost a full calendar year. It was a season low for the Warriors in points, field goal percentage (38.6) and 3-point percentage (20). They just couldn’t get their shots to fall. On the Chicago side of things, Portis had 17 points and a season high 13 rebounds because of course he did. Butler added 22 points to the win, going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line.

The first half seemed normal enough. Golden State had a four-point lead going into halftime, but they would go on to score only 36 points in the second half. Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combined to shoot a paltry 3-for-22 from 3-point range, even though they still combined for 36 points. Being bad at 3s is our thing, guys. Go get your own shtick. This game proved that the TNT Bulls streak is strong enough to withstand even the fiercest streak-on-streak type of competition. It gave us hope that the streak might overcome all adversity until the end of time. Ok, maybe that was just me.

Game 20: Can they keep it going?

The Bulls take on the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday and will attempt to extend the streak even further. Their chances have arguably slimmed down in recent days, as it appears that the Cavaliers will be jockeying with Boston for the top seed in the playoffs. However, the Bulls have overcome much more with much less over the course of this tale.

We’ll be here to take you through the ups and downs of the game, to celebrate with you if the Bulls pull it out once again and to mourn with you if yet another streak ends for Chicago this season. We hope you’ve enjoyed going on this adventure with us.

Let’s go #TNTBulls.
