Shooting Guard Grades

With Wade gone, it’s getting thing at the two. I’m encouraged that Paul Zipser, the No. 48 pick in the 2016 draft, of Bayern Munich fame and the full age of 22 years, is getting some run at the end of the season. Jerian Grant doesn’t really have a position for Chicago anymore, so he goes here because I can.

Paul Zipser – Grade: B-

Zipser is doing good and unremarkable things. I still don’t have a stat for his footwork on defense, which has been great most of the year. But now, it’s good that I don’t because he’s been torched multiple times recently. It isn’t as common as Denzel Valentine or Rajon Rondo or the dearly departed Doug McDermott, but he was having more success early in the season. He’s probably fatigued from his first year of dealing with the rigors of the NBA. Huge positives though, as he averaged more than 30 minutes per game. He’s also shooting well – 50 percent on field goals, 40 percent on 3s.

Jerian Grant – Grade: D+

I can’t give him an ‘F’ because I don’t feel that it is entirely his fault that Hoiberg isn’t letting him get some game action. I’m also very willing to acknowledge how low I am on him for the future. Maybe he just isn’t going to turn the corner and work his way into a more prominent role and maybe it just hasn’t arrived yet. He only played two games, less than 10 minutes per on average. Rough days for Grant.
