Diablo: Nikola Mirotic

Can you think of a player on the current Bulls roster more likely to catch fire and torch an opponent more quickly before returning to his normal state? Neither can I.

The correlations run deeper, follow me on this. Diablo’s real name is Chato Santana. That name is clearly Hispanic or Spanish. Mirotic played in Spain before coming to the NBA. Santana encounters the original Diablo, Lazarus Lane, after being hospitalized. If you’ll remember last season, Mirotic was hospitalized for two different procedures.

Mirotic was a draft-and-stash prospect, forced to wait it out in Europe, like he was in prison due to a buyout clause with his rights traded, so that he wasn’t electing to join the Bulls. They were his only option as Gar Forman held his rights. More on that soon enough.

Let’s take a second to think more about Mirotic and Diablo. What do we really know about Mirotic before his time at Real Madrid? Not much. The Diablo teaser trailer above lists his core temperature at 666 degrees. 666 is also a number associated with evil and/or the Devil. Diablo also happens to be Spanish for Devil.

We may never know all the details about Mirotic and his possibly dark past, but we do know that when he starts knocking down three-point shots, he goes from your standard stretch-four to Diablo very quickly.
