No. 5: The youngest MVP in league history
Before the 2010-11 NBA season, Rose rhetorically asked the Chicago media during the Bulls’ media day, “Why can’t I be the MVP of the league?”

62 wins, the top overall seed in the postseason and an All-Star Game appearance later, Derrick Rose became the youngest MVP in the history of the NBA at the age of 22.
Rose averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 assists per game for the 62-20 Bulls and became just the third player in league history to score 2,000+ points and dish out 600+ assists in the same season.
The other two players who accomplished that feat at the time? Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
That’s pretty good company.
Rose doesn’t say much during his MVP speech, but the part on his mother Brenda hits you in the feelings every time you hear it.
As someone who didn’t grow up with much and had a mother that worked harder than hard, hearing Rose’s beautiful words about his mother makes me happy every time I hear them.
It may not be a flashy highlight, but it’s a moment that defines the type of person that Derrick Rose became in the city of Chicago.
