Until a couple days after this, it felt like this was going to be the year that the Chicago Bulls finally slay the dragon that is LeBron James in the postseason.

James would hit a dagger three-pointer of his own to tie the series at two games apiece and then the Cleveland Cavaliers would go on to eliminate the Bulls in six games of their Eastern Conference semifinal matchup two seasons ago.

But on this night, the spotlight belonged to Derrick Rose.

Game 3 between the Bulls and Cavaliers was tied at 96 with just seconds remaining. The Bulls advanced the ball into the front court and set up a play for a shot at the buzzer.

The play was simply, “Get Derrick Rose the ball and let him do the rest.”

It worked.

Rose’s banked-in triple as time expired gave the Bulls a 2-1 series lead against James and the Cavaliers; a position they had never been in against the now-three-time NBA champion.

Although this shot went for naught, it felt like a rejuvenation of Rose’s career at that point. He played like a star in the series and looked like the Rose from the previous years.
