Matthew Dellavedova vs. Kirk Hinrich

Matthew Dellavedova was completely irrelevant last season until he stepped up with his “physical play” in the postseason. Kirk Hinrich is also known for his physical defense, although he has slowed down a step these past few years. It is unclear how much of an impact either one of these players will have this season, but Dellavedova should be given a chance to shine while Irving is out.

Dellavedova – PPG (4.8) APG (3.0) RPG (1.9)

Hinrich – PPG (5.7) APG (2.2) RPG (1.8)

Dellavedova did step up defensively against Rose in the playoffs and also stepped up his scoring to 8.3 points. Hinrich’s average dropped to three points a game for the series. Without a doubt, Dellavedova holds the advantage over Hinrich. Father Time has caught up to Hinrich and he seems to produce best when he plays fewer minutes.

There are a few other players that could possibly step up this year for Chicago such as rookie Bobby Portis or even E’Twaun Moore. However, they are unlikely to find enough playing time to contribute this year.
