3. Jamal Crawford

Notable Stats: 16.0 ppg (leading all bench players), 39.1 percent shooting from the field

Random Fun Stat: He is 1 year older than Gilbert Arenas (interpret that at your choosing).

Crawford is a candidate for this award every season. Originally a starter, the Hawks converted him to a bench player in the 2009-10 season. Since then, Crawford has won two Sixth Man of the Year awards. Like Brooks, Crawford is in the perfect situation coming off the bench for the Clippers. When Chris Paul and Blake Griffin need rest, Crawford is expected to carry the Clips offense.

Crawford is in 16th season in the league and has a pretty good career by NBA standards. He may not get Sixth Man of the Year, but he probably has the title of best player from the 2000 draft. The other candidates are Kenyon Martin, Mike Miller, Hedo Turkoglu, or DeShawn Stevenson. It may be the biggest backhanded compliment in the NBA since Scottie Pippen said Michael Jordan is, “probably the greatest scorer to play the game”, but congrats to Jamal Crawford, the “Best Player from the 2000 NBA Draft!”

  • The problem with Crawford this season and his entire career is he can’t play off the ball. He is great when it’s just him running pick and rolls and creating shots off the bench, but when the Clips try to put him with Paul late in games, Crawford struggles. Crawford only takes 30.4 percent of his shots in catch and shoot situations compared to 51.7 percent as pull-up jump shots. J.J. Redick might be a better option for the Clippers down the stretch. Despite leading all candidates in points, shooting 39.1 percent from the floor is a glaring hole in Crawford’s Sixth Man of the Year candidacy.
