#6 – Taj Gibson
Coming in at number six is the Bulls’ Secretary of Defense, Taj Gibson.
Gibson is the perfect example of a player who will do whatever it takes to win. Once the season was over for the Bulls last year, Gibson was informed that he would be in the starting lineup for Chicago. Then later in the summer, the Bulls signed Pau Gasol, which moved Taj back to the bench. He didn’t complain though, and instead continued to work on his game over the summer.
Gibson is averaging 11.2 points, 7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 28.8 minutes per game. He is now a problem for the opposing team both offensively and defensively. On offense, Taj has a nice mid-range jump shot, and is also a strong post player. On defense, we all know that Taj is great, racking up blocks and altering several shots whenever he is playing. The only problem with Gibson on defense thus far has been him getting demolished in the pick and roll because he sags off, allowing too much space for the opposing player. If Gibson can fix this, he’ll further improve his status as a very strong interior defender.
Overall, Gibson is a well-rounded player who could be starting for the Bulls, but instead he is doing very well coming off the bench. He knows his opportunity will come soon, and when it does, he’ll be ready for it.
