Taj Gibson: Police Nabs His Cousin’s Killer!

Breaking News to Pippen Ain’t Easy!!! New York authorities have arrested a man believed to have allegedly stabbed Taj Gibson’s six-year-old cousin, Prince Joshua Avitto and seven-year old Mikayla Capers according to the Associated Press on June 1, 2014. Sadly as we all know little Prince did not survive the attack and Mikayla is still recovering from injuries. Prince Joshua Avitto is the cousin of Chicago Bulls power forward Taj Gibson. We did it Pippen Peoples! We did it!

Authorities arrested 27-year-old Daniel St. Hubert in connection with this crime and being held in custody as of this writing. Details of an attorney are sketchy  at this point as the investigation is obviously ongoing.

Police say that St. Hubert used a steak knife allegedly to stab each child multiple times that left Prince in the elevator dead and Mikayla barely outside the building severely injured. Relatives and witnesses say they were under adult supervision when they walked inside the Brooklyn housing complex where they were cornered by a heavy-set guy in his 20’s. St. Hubert is believed to have left the steak knife at the scene and fled on foot.

Daniel St. Hubert maybe linked to another murder allegedly of an 18-year-old woman days earlier a few blocks away. A steak knife was left there as well.

St. Hubert has quite a violent history. He has nine arrests on his criminal record which includes…

Two for assaulting police and correction officers.

A domestic assault case in which he was released on May 23rd.

Was sentenced to time behind bars after convictions for attempted murder and assault.

He served three years in city jails and two in an upstate prison according to state correction records.

Pippen Peoples, I want to say something to each and every one of you. Yesterday I wrote an article that hated to write. This one is written with emotion and appreciation.  Sometimes we fight over the Chicago Bulls and how they need to improve. But I was humbled to near tears when I saw the swell of readers to yesterday’s report. The tally was the highest to date for Pippen Ain’t Easy. But it’s bigger than that. The Chicago Bulls, the fans and the Chicago media are all family. I hurt for Taj Gibson because I have a six-year-old son and for Prince to die the way he did was so reprehensible it makes you question the world and what it’s coming to. To see how quickly we got a man who I still have to choose my words correctly so I don’t get fired from FanSided off the streets is a testament to all of you. This is what FanSided is all about. This is what Pippen Ain’t Easy is all about. A chance for all of us to come together to not just talk about Chicago Bulls basketball, but bring awareness to important issues. I wish it was under different circumstances.

To each person that prayed for the Taj and his family, thank you. To all the prayers for the Capers family, I thank you as well. But let’s not forget to pray for the family for 18-year-old Tanaya Copeland who was stabbed a reported 32 times as well. This is probably twice as hard on her family considering that these crimes may be allegedly linked  together.

We all need to give a special thank you to the witnesses that had the courage to speak up. A lot of times these crimes go unsolved because of fear or that ridiculous “No Snitching” rule. It is wonderful that some people had the heart and courage to make a stand and get this….maniac off the streets before he did this to somebody else. After looking at this guy’s rap sheet, this is big deal because it was obvious that this was not going to be his last crime. It’s easy to say “It’s not my problem” but  then when it hits home with an individual it’s a totally different scenario.

Pippen Peoples, I’ll say it one more time and then it’s back to basketball. It doesn’t matter if they are your own little kids, nieces, nephews or grandkids. CHERISH THEM! None of us are promised tomorrow. Hug the little ones and let them know they are loved and you will do anything in the world for them to succeed in life. Don’t let life steal those moments away. Please be diligent in watching them. This bad situation should pose as a wake up call that tragedy can come in a blink of an eye.

Hey Taj, I’ll say on behalf of the staff of Pippen Ain’t Easy that we share in you and your families sorrow for your tragic loss. It is unfortunate and sad. The staff at Pippen Ain’t Easy will be happy to be covering you under different and happier circumstances when you get that starting power forward spot. I know the Pippen Peoples feel the same way with their support as well.

I  have one request to anyone that reads this. I’m not a social media guru but I do know that social media is an important tool to get a  message out to the masses. If you read this story retweet it. Get the story out on Facebook. Tell a friend of a friend so they can tell another friend. Let’s start a revolution to stop senseless violence. Look what it did right here. Let’s start a legacy of change for Little Prince Avitto and Tanaya Copeland. Let’s not let them die in vain. Let’s make a difference for them and their families.

Okay, Pippen Peoples, now that we got this clown off the streets and into custody, back to bringing your opinions on how this team will be built.
