Chicago Bulls Rumors: E’Twaun Moore…Do We Need Him?

facebooktwitterreddit

Boy has this been a long offseason hasn’t it Pippen Peoples. With all of the drama with the exit of Carlos Boozer and his road leading up to amnesty and Carmelo Anthony’s NBA tour that started inside the United Center, so many Chicago Bulls rumors have been rampant. Within the doldrums of a long offseason that has been very successful for the Chicago Bulls, there is one rumor that is different from all of the other Chicago Bulls rumors. That rumor? The Bulls are rumored to sign E’Twaun Moore. Who?

No, seriously…who is this guy?

I find it very peculiar that the Bulls have an interest in E’Twaun Moore in the first  place. I guess the media is struggling to find anything to write about again (Hey, this is a tough business when absolutely nothing is going on.)

Pippen Peoples, I’ve  said it once and I will keep on saying it. Chicago Bulls rumors are just that…rumors. I’ll say it with no remorse. 85% of what is being said in the media rumor wise is garbage. I think this rumor is too. I have nothing but respect for Mary Stevens who says the Bulls are  close to a deal with Moore.

Mary Stevens @marypazstevens

"“Rumors of former Magic guard E’Twaun Moore signing with the Cavs are false. Likely to sign with the Bulls in the next few days per sources.”"

Okay, a show of hands here. How many people know who this guy is without going to Bing, Google, NBA.com or ESPN and looking him up in the players section? I thought so. To the friends and immediate family members of  E’Twaun Moore, you obviously don’t count.

Don’t feel bad or start questioning your desire for NBA basketball or your knowledge of the sport. You really shouldn’t have a clue to what this guy can do. Let’s take a look here. He hasn’t shown you yet. Let’s take a look at the résumé shall we Pippen Peoples?

E’Twuan Moore was drafted 55th overall by the Boston Celtics in the second round of the 2011 draft out of Purdue. He spent one year in Boston then spent two unceremonious years in Orlando before they let him go. Now let’s take  a close look at that. The Orlando Magic who is considered one of the worst teams in the NBA let you go so they can sign Ben Gordon to come in and replace one of the spots you were fighting for. Not the Ben Gordon that went nuts in the playoffs for the Chicago Bulls years back, I’m talking about the Ben Gordon that is ten minutes from being out of the league for a bad attitude and a worse acumen for playing  defense.

Moore averaged 6.3 points, 1.7 rebounds, 1.4  assists and less than one steal per game last season. Can the man shoot? Moore shot 42.8%  from the field while shooting 35.4% from the land of the extra point and 76.8% from the free throw line. To me that’s not enough for a Bulls roster spot. For his career, Moore averages 6.2 points, 1.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists on the strength of 40.7% from the field, 35% from the three-point line and 79% from the free throw line. Can he play solid defense? Perhaps. But the Bulls don’t need defenders at this point. They need someone who can hit an occasional jumper. Moore is not that guy.

Do the Chicago Bulls need this guy?

MAN PLEASE! NO! Granted chapter 7,123 of the Chicago Bulls rumors pamphlet has the Bulls taking an interest and I’m glad they notice that a big guard in needed on the roster but this is not the guy. E’Twaun Moore is going to be five seconds from buying a plane ticket overseas after the rumors die down.

Furthermore, this probably wouldn’t even be a rumor if his name wasn’t attached to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Come on Pippen Peoples. Have you seen that squad as of late? They are loaded and with the reported signing of  Shawn Marion this weekend, the rich is getting richer. The Cavaliers don’t need E’Twaun Moore on that squad no more than they need me to take the last shot in Game seven of the NBA Finals.

The Bulls need to be careful with watching  every move Cleveland makes and  reacting to every rumor that deals with them. Yeah, I can hear you now, “The Bulls don’t care about what the Cavaliers are doing!” Sure they do. That’s their job. The Bulls front office has to  be careful in bringing in players to offset other teams. It’s a dangerous game to play.

There are some players that are still out there that the Bulls can get for skid row, veteran’s minimum prices. They happen to be still available. Here’s three off the top of my head as of this writing…

1) Shannon Brown

2) Toure Murry (As a Knicks fan, I can vouch for this dude, he can play. The Knicks have swingmen growing on trees in New York.)

3) Chris Douglas-Roberts
