With the Chicago Bulls left scrapping up any talent they can find, it’s a miracle that this offseason has gone as well as it has thus far. With the luxury tax hovering over their heads, the front office has scrapped together the best deals they possibly could to secure the team’s future.

Chicago has done its best to retain its best talent while searching for quality bench players on the cheap agency in free agency. So far, Andre Drummond has been the biggest fish they’ve been able to reel in.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Bulls were able to snag a talented veteran like Drummond for a mere $3.3 million annually. Drummond will likely carry on to log most of the reserve minutes at center behind Nikola Vucevic next year.

After signing a new addition and bringing back a couple of familiar faces, here’s how you can expect the Chicago Bulls’ depth chart to look next season.

Zach LaVine and Derrick Jones Jr. make their return

While many expected Zach LaVine to re-up with the Chicago Bulls on a max contract extension, Derrick jones Jr. comes in as the real surprise here. He’ll be a welcome addition to a roster that’s starving for depth at the reserve power forward spot.

Andre Drummond joins LaVine and Jones Jr. as the newest member on the roster, as they likely hope he can submit quality minutes as the Bulls’ backup center.

Chicago Bulls updated depth chart

There’s certainly still time for the Bulls to continue making moves this offseason, and we intend to update you as the summer progresses. Until then, the remainder of the MLE and the trade market will be Chicago’s primary avenues to continue improving this roster.

As Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley have repeatedly indicated, the goal of this offseason is continuity. For that reason, we’re almost certain to see the same starting five trot out next year. Hopefully, this time they’ll be accompanied by a solid amount of improved depth and a well-rounded roster worthy of contention.

  • PG: Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso, Goran Dragic*
  • SG: Zach LaVine, Coby White, Ayo Dosunmu
  • SF: DeMar DeRozan, JaVonte Green, Dalen Terry
  • PF: Patrick Williams, Derrick Jones Jr.
  • C: Nikola Vucevic, Andre Drummond, Tony Bradley, Marko Simonovic

*Goran Dragic signed a one-year, minimum contract with the Chicago Bulls after this article was originally posted. He’ll assume reserve point guard duties moving forward.

We’re likely to see a battle between Ayo and Coby here for the primary reserve two-guard minutes here. There’s always the possibility we roll out a three-guard set, but there’s finally a stiff competition for reserve minutes at small forward between JaVonte Green and the rookie Dalen Terry.

Outside of the saturated center rotation, I actually really appreciate how well-rounded this roster looks and I’m cautiously optimistic about their chances this upcoming season. That being said, I hope the Bulls still have one more move up their sleeve before it’s all said and done.
