Sleepers to make the Chicago Bulls final roster: Daniel Oturu
The most recent addition for the Bulls to the camp roster came within the past week to provide more frontcourt help to round out the final 15-man roster. Executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley made the move within the last week to sign the former Los Angeles Clippers 22-year-old center Daniel Oturu..
This former Minnesota Golden Gophers star big man was the 33rd pick in the second round of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2020 NBA Draft. He only played in 30 games in the regular season during his rookie campaign with the Clippers, and then got very limited playing time in eight postseason games with the same team.
What Oturu brings to the table for the Bulls frontcourt unit in camp is a more versatile big man that can score from all over, and rebounds the ball at a high level. Oturu has a solid fundamental shooting stroke as he was a real threat from deep in his two seasons at Minnesota.
Oturu also shot the ball better during his stint in Summer League in Las Vegas with the Clippers, at least from inside the arc. Although, the most impressive aspect of his game during Summer League was his defensive numbers. Oturu averaged nearly 10 rebounds per game and north of three blocks in Summer League.
The Bulls have someone that might be able to space the floor and provide the frontcourt unit with a solid reserve rim-protecting big man in rookie center Marko Simonovic. But Simonovic is going to be in his first year with the Bulls this coming season. Oturu is more polished at this point.
I like the idea of the Bulls keeping around another reserve big man. Maybe Karnisovas and the Bulls could add Oturu in the final two-way contract slot.
