Sleepers to make the Chicago Bulls final roster: James Ennis III
Here is our weekly post on why the Bulls could add the sharpshooting former Orlando Magic veteran small forward James Ennis III out of free agency before the regular season begins. There was apparent interest between the Bulls’ front office and Ennis before Training Camp began this month.
And since Ennis is still available in free agency ahead of the start of next season, it could work well for the Bulls to bring him into the mix. There are some other pieces on the camp roster that could be let go if it meant getting more shooting to add to this reserve group of wings.
It’s hard to argue with the fact that Ennis is one of the best free agents left entering the month of October. Ennis began the offseason as one of the best wing shooters available in free agency. Given how much sharpshooting wings are in this day and age in the NBA, it’s hard to believe that no one has signed Ennis as of yet.
Last season, Ennis shot better than 47 percent from the field and 43 percent from beyond the arc. Since the Bulls don’t have a proven knockdown shooter that brings a comparable skill set to the table for Donovan and the Bulls in camp, it makes sense to sign him.
Especially with second-year forward Patrick Williams likely set to at least miss the first few games of the regular season, bringing Ennis in could plug a hole to help space the floor for the Bulls.
Since there are really only two players on the camp roster that are sitting on non-guaranteed deals for the Bulls that I believe could be sleepers to make the 15-man roster, Ennis makes the final spot on this list. I would still personally be a fan of adding him to bring in more wing shooters ahead of next season.
