Best wing shooters remaining for the Chicago Bulls: Garrison Mathews

One of the true hidden gems that is still available this late in the offseason on the free agent market is the former Washington Wizards sharpshooting two-guard/wing Garrison Mathews.

In fact, it’s pretty hard to believe that Mathews is still available in free agency in the first place. It seems like there was interest from a few teams in the past few weeks to sign him including the Cavaliers and Dallas Mavericks. But their loss could be the Bulls’ gain by signing Mathews ahead of the start of next season.

The 24-year-old 6-foot-5 and 215-pound wing is one of the most pure shooters that was available in free agency at any point of the offseason. While the other two wings on this list are definitely proven shooters that can knock their looks down from the outside at a high level, Mathews might be the best fundamental shooter from anywhere on the floor.

And the consistency with which Mathews hits his looks from three is pretty incredible. In his first two seasons in the NBA, Mathews did not shoot worse than around 38.5 percent from beyond the arc. And he’s shot just shy of 90 percent from the charity stripe with the Wizards in the last two seasons.

Mathews is mainly a threat from the corners, but he is good from above the break too. He won’t create many of his own looks, but that’s not what the Bulls would need out of him. If he could shoot better than 40 percent from beyond the arc on mostly catch-and-shoot looks, that would be well worth it for the Bulls to sign Mathews.
