Chicago Bulls options in free agency on the wing: Svi Mykhailiuk

Gone are the days of the Bulls having to worry much about finding wing depth to fill behind the injury-prone veteran small forward Otto Porter Jr. Executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley shored up the depth on the wing within the past year with Patrick Williams and Troy Brown Jr.

Even the signing of the former San Antonio Spurs star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan brought additional help at the three if needed.

Yet, the Bulls have a lot of multiplicity out of the wings on the current roster. They could be used at other positions, which could be needed heading into next season. It would help if the Bulls had another knock-down shooter that can bring that consistent presence to the table like the former Oklahoma City Thunder shooting guard/small forward Svi Mykhailiuk.

The 47th overall pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2018 NBA Draft has now played for three different teams over the course of three seasons in his career to date. Mykhailiuk is familiar with playing in the Central Division from his bits and pieces of three seasons with the Pistons.

Mykhailiuk is a career 37 percent shooter about from beyond the arc, and he’s averaged around 1.5 steals per 36 minutes. He’s a decent defender (although not a great one), and he’s a pretty well-rounded offensive wing that can effectively fill a second or third unit role.

When the Bulls need another knock-down shooter that isn’t necessarily a defensive liability on the wing, having the ability to turn to someone like Mykhailiuk could be very valuable. The Thunder have a qualifying offer out to Mykhailiuk, but he could still be signed for roughly a minimum deal if the Bulls wanted to top his offer sheet.
