Chicago Bulls players ready to breakthrough after Summer League: Ayo Dosunmu

One of the most exciting young players on this Bulls roster heading into next season is the rookie former Illinois Fighting Ilini star junior point guard Ayo Dosunmu. Executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley picked up Dosunmu with the 38th overall pick in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

And the impact Dosunmu can make for the Bulls in the next few years showed right away during his stint with the Summer League team. Dosunmu was a well-rounded contributor for this starting unit in Vegas. It clicked on defense for Dosunmu in Summer League pretty early on, and the offense continued to improve during these five games.

Dosunmu was one of the leading contributors on either end of the floor for the Bulls in Summer League. He averaged 12.6 points per game, 4.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.2 blocks. And Dosunmu shot 43 percent from the field, just nine percent from beyond the arc, and 80 percent from the free-throw line.

The shooting percentages Dosunmu put together in Vegas weren’t the greatest. But he’s just got to find that shooting stroke from downtown that he showed during his junior campaign with Illinois, where he hit his looks at a clip of 39 percent. Dosunmu should be able to translate that before too long.

The fact that Dosunmu was able to effectively produce for the Bulls in Summer League right away on both ends of the floor shows that he is capable of getting a bigger role than most second-round guard picks.
