Remaining free agents the Chicago Bulls could use to bolster the bench: Paul Millsap

Frankie Smokes and the former Denver Nuggets veteran power forward Paul Millsap are two of the real gems that the Bulls could find among the remaining free agents this offseason. It’s very hard to believe that the four-time All-Star and longtime Atlanta Hawks standout big man Millsap is still available in free agency this summer.

Maybe the asking price is just too high on Millsap, or maybe he’s already in talks to go back to his most recent employer in the Mile High City heading into next season.

Either way, Karnisovas and the Bulls should be calling Millsap constantly to gauge his interest in coming to the Windy City next season. The 36-year-old Louisiana native and former Louisiana Tech Bulldogs star is definitely one of the most capable and qualified free agents remaining among power forwards for the Bulls to sign to hold a significant role ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.

With the Bulls likely to see fourth-year power forward and restricted free agent Lauri Markkanen out very shortly, there will be a sizable need at the four for Donovan in this rotation. The Bulls are likely to see either DeRozan or second-year forward Patrick Williams start at the four next season. But the backup role is anything but solidified.

The Bulls did sign former Oklahoma City Thunder big man Tony Bradley and brought over the former KK Mega Bemax center Marko Simonovic for his first season in the NBA. But neither Bradley nor Simonovic is a good proven option to run as the true backup power forward for the Bulls heading into next season. That’s why Millsap is such a viable option for the Bulls in this spot.
