Remaining free agents for the Chicago Bulls to replace Lauri Markkanen: Paul Millsap

One of my personal favorite free agent targets for Karnisovas and the Bulls throughout the offseason is the veteran former Denver Nuggets and Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap. The four-time All-Star selection and one-time All-Defensive Team selection Millsap is now 36 years old, but is still contributing at a respectable level.

At this point of his career, and with how the Bulls have beefed up the starting five this summer already, Millsap likely would be put in a sixth or seventh man role if he landed in Chicago heading into next season. But it’s hard to imagine much of a better veteran big man for the Bulls to have on this bench than Millsap.

The fact that Millsap is still unsigned this offseason is pretty surprising since he’s still producing at a high level for his age. Depending on the dollar figure that Millsap is looking for this summer, he should be a good value signing for really any contender to get over the hump. And that’s something that the Bulls are likely looking to add this summer.

It’s hard to find another reason why the Bulls would want to go out and give sizable contracts of at least three years to both the former Los Angeles Lakers point guard Alex Caruso and former San Antonio Spurs star shooting guard/forward DeMar DeRozan. If the main goal at hand for the Bulls is getting over the postseason hump, and that’s really the bottom line, then signing Millsap makes sense from almost all angles.
