Free agents worth the gamble for the Chicago Bulls: Spencer Dinwiddie

The final name up on this list might also be the least risky of the bunch. The main reason why the Brooklyn Nets standout 6-foot-5 and 215-pound 28-year-old point guard Spencer Dinwiddie should be one of the top targets for the Bulls in free agency next month. With Dinwiddie looking all but guaranteed to opt-out of the final year of his current contract, the Bulls should be ready to get into negotiations with him this summer.

It does appear that the far and away top point guard target for Karnisovas and the Bulls this summer will be the New Orleans Pelicans 23-year-old floor general Lonzo Ball. But Dinwiddie might actually be the second priority if it doesn’t work out for the Bulls pursuing Lonzo. A lot of that will be a matter of how much each of these point guards asks salary-wise in free agency.

Dinwiddie is likely to command a slightly lower price tag in terms of annual salary figure on his next contract since he’s coming off a season-ending knee injury. That is also why it poses a risk for the Bulls to hand Dinwiddie a lofty contract this summer since there’s no guarantee he returns to the same level he played at last season with the Nets.

What the Bulls would be chasing by signing Dinwiddie is a point guard that was playing nearly at an All-Star caliber level during the 2019-20 season. But chasing down something like that can be a dangerous game since the Bulls would use essentially all of their current cap space at hand if they were to sign Dinwiddie.
