Chicago Bulls: 3 free agent targets that could appease Zach LaVine
Free agents for the Chicago Bulls to appease Zach LaVine: Paul Millsap
I’ve long been an advocate of the idea of Karnisovas and the Bulls going out to sign the four-time All-Star and 2015-16 All-Defensive Team selection Paul Millsap. This veteran 36-year-old power forward wouldn’t a be long-term find for the Bulls in free agency this summer, but he could certainly help to elevate this team heading into next season.
Millsap was actually brought in with the Denver Nuggets while Karnisovas was their general manager. At the time, he was on a very expensive contract that he signed coming off the end of his run with the Atlanta Hawks. But the contract that Millsap was on through the end of this season paid him just $10 million annually.
Given that Millsap was at least still a starting-caliber big man for the Nuggets this season, that is not a bad price tag for him. If the Bulls could manage to sign Millsap for an annual salary figure in the seven figures, that should be a no-brainer for the front office next month.
Millsap would give the Bulls a bona fide top trio in the frontcourt unit that could take a lot of the pressure off of LaVine to shoulder the load on offense. That top trio could consist of the likes of Vooch, former Boston Celtics center Daniel Theis, and Millsap. This trio also wouldn’t cost the Bulls all that much, which still allows them to go out and get the point guard of the future.
