Scorching hot draft prospects for the Chicago Bulls to target at 38: Jason Preston
Let’s face it, the Bulls have an extremely low likelihood of finding their point guard of the future in the second round of the 2021 draft. The Bulls couldn’t even solve their need at the point guard position with the seventh overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft when they selected the former North Carolina Tar Heel Coby White.
Yet, there is a prospect that could help the Bulls to fill out the backcourt rotation that is rising up draft boards in the blink of an eye the past few weeks. Former Ohio Bobcats star junior point guard Jason Preston is a quality target to help the Bulls fill out the backcourt rotation.
Without really the speed or overall athleticism to take him too far up draft boards, the Bulls could find a potential gem in the second round with Preston. The 6-foot-4 and 190-pound floor general still has the length and defensive awareness to make an impact on that end of the floor for the Bulls.
What really sticks out about Preston’s game is the fact that the game moves at his own speed. He controls the pace of the offense very well, and he’s a master at times at creating his own looks. While we shouldn’t expect Preston to turn into Luka Doncic, he does have that type of quality to his game of moving everyone around him at his own pace.
Preston also has a tremendous ability as a spot-up or catch-and-shoot threat from downtown. He shot the three-ball at a clip north of 39 percent during his junior season at Ohio. And he shot the ball from the field better than 51 percent.
If Preston is still on the board for the Bulls at 38, he could be a solid second or third unit guard for Karnisovas and Eversley to take a flier out on.
