Point guards worth trading up for in the draft for the Chicago Bulls: Josh Giddey
Among the faster-rising point guard prospects up draft boards in the past few months is the Australian 6-foot-8 and 205-pound star Josh Giddey. You will usually get one or two fast-rising international point guard prospects that look first-round caliber each passing year, but Giddey fits into a different profile.
Most of the fast-rising international point guard prospects that see a rise in their stock like Giddey has don’t have his facilitating ability and enormous frame/wingspan. Giddey is also currently just 18 years old, and he will be 19 at the start of next season. He’s still got a long way to go in his game before he reaches his massive potential.
This might not be an immediate fix to the Bulls’ point guard need heading into next season, but it could be an intriguing long-term fit between Giddey and the likes of Vooch, LaVine, and Williams.
Giddey needs to improve his outside sheet, avoid chasing through ball screens, and footwork. He’s definitely got the size and athleticism to drive the lane, but he needs to add some muscle to his frame. But a lot of these “flaws” in Giddey’s game should be quick fixes early on in his NBA career.
The Bulls showed a lot of faith in taking a flier out on Williams last year as somewhat of a raw prospect. Giddey could fit into a similar bucket as Williams in terms of mindset for building out this starting unit for the Bulls.
Since Giddey is likely to fall as a mid-to-late first-round pick in the 2021 draft, he might not cost the Bulls as much to trade up to get him either.
