Re-grading Chicago Bulls 2020 offseason acquisitions

Garrett Temple, SG

Really the lone addition to the Bulls roster last offseason that wasn’t a rookie was the former Brooklyn Nets veteran 35-year-old shooting guard and Baton Rouge, LA, native Garrett Temple. The 6-foot-5 and 195-pound NBA journeyman Temple signed with the Bulls last offseason on a one-year contract that was worth around $5 million.

There is still a chance that the Bulls bring back Temple for at least one more season this summer. But it also appears that Karnisovas and Eversley are keeping their options open in terms of how to add depth at the two-guard/wing this summer.

Temple had a pretty pedestrian 2020-21 campaign in terms of his counting stats and shooting percentages, at least by his usual standard. A -3.5 box plus/minus, .050 win shares per 48 minutes, and an 8.2 player efficiency rating, is nothing to write home about. But Temple at least brought a valuable veteran presence to this locker room during the regular season.

Grade: C-

Devon Dotson, PG

The last Bulls player on this list that was added to the roster last offseason that gets a grade is the former undrafted free agent signing and Kansas Jayhawks star point guard Devon Dotson. Karnisovas got a nice snagged on the undrafted free agent market last fall by signing Dotson in one of the Bulls’ two-way contract slots.

Although Dotson showed some promise in very limited minutes in his rookie season, he could provide for a lot of value in a third unit role in the backcourt rotation moving forward. That is if the front office decides to re-sign him this summer.

Really the only reason why Dotson doesn’t get an “A” on this list for his addition to the roster last fall is the fact that Donovan and the Bulls should’ve played him more over other guards like Denzel Valentine and Ryan Arcidiacono this season.
