Chicago Bulls biggest questions heading into the offseason: How does Coby White take a step forward while injured?

The Bulls received frustrating news when they learned guard Coby White would be having surgery this offseason. White is a key part of the team’s ability to improve this offseason and his surgery makes basketball development much more difficult.

The North Carolina product has shown glimpses of the ability to be a good scoring guard in the league but needs to work on multiple areas of his game before being a true impact player on a winning team. With his offseason set to be centered around rehab, the question becomes how does he take a step forward?

One thing he could and should do is study NBA point guards. Just because the physical aspect of the game will be limited for him doesn’t mean he can’t focus on the mental side and take a step forward in that regard.

That studying could help him become much more of the natural point guard that many want him to be. While he will never be a traditional point guard, he can improve his approach and on-court IQ to be the point guard the team needs moving forward.

White’s trade value took a hit with the announcement of his surgery. Selling him while rehabbing feels like it would be selling much lower than the team should truly consider. They would be much better off helping him rehab and seeing what he looks like next year before considering any moves involving him.

His offseason improvement will ride on the work he puts in and will show a lot about him as a key piece to the organization moving forward. The pressure is on for him to take a step despite dealing with an injury.
