Daishen Nix was among three other five-star recruits in the high school class of 2020 to pilot the G-League Ignite program for NBA prospects who wish to play professional basketball, instead of taking the collegiate route. Nix was known as a high-level distributor and perimeter defender coming out of high school and has continued to make plays and defend in the G League as well.

However, the weak spots in Nix’s game were fully exposed in his first professional season, as he struggled mightily to find his offensive game. He shot an abysmal eighteen percent from deep on just over two attempts per game last season, which is simply not an option for an NBA guard. However, some team could see past Nix’s lack of offensive game and tap into his ability as a floor general and defender.

On the defensive end, Nix’s great wingspan and big body help him to compete with most guards on the other end of the floor. His combination of this and his distribution could make for a nice rotational player in the NBA to facilitate the offense and slow down opposing guards on the defensive end.

Nix’s career isn’t going to go the way he wants it to if he does not find an offensive game, as guards without outside shots are becoming extinct in the NBA. However, his defensive abilities and upside as a floor general should be enough to get him drafted somewhere in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft.
