Former All-Stars the Chicago Bulls could sign: Derrick Rose

Some have already brought up the idea of the Bulls signing their former MVP point guard Derrick Rose this summer if he doesn’t re-sign with the New York Knicks. Obviously, that would be a volatile proposition, but it might be a reunion that would happen too soon. The Bulls don’t have a clear role for D-Rose to fill in all likelihood right now.

If there was a guarantee that Rose could somehow stay healthy as a starting point guard at the age of almost 33, that would be fantastic. But that just wasn’t the reality that Rose experienced through his career thus far. It’s absolutely tremendous to see some of the success that Rose has found as he’s reinvented himself the past few seasons.

Once Rose got a chance with the Minnesota Timberwolves to take on a smaller role off the bench, he really thrived. And since then, Rose has produced at a high level in mostly a reserve role with the Detroit Pistons and now the Knicks. It is nice to see that Rose can succeed with a big market team in a spotlight like the one he had with the Knicks and head coach Tom Thibodeau.

But being coached by Thibs likely brought some level of comfort to the table that he wouldn’t have had playing for the Knicks otherwise this season.

The Chicago native Rose is one that would be nice to see sign with the Bulls for a reunion before he calls it quits. But as he’s still producing at a rather high level given the way he’s reinvented his game, Rose is likely going to find another spot to sign next.

Nonetheless, Rose is a three-time All-Star that will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. There is the possibility of the discussions flying around that the Bulls should sign him, I just personally don’t think it is something that should happen yet.
