Underrated Chicago Bulls FA targets to watch down the stretch: Josh Richardson
Rounding out the backcourt rotation is a huge looming task for Karnisovas and the Bulls this coming offseason. The Bulls don’t have much to brag about in their backcourt rotation beyond star shooting guard Zach LaVine. And adding a player like the former Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat two-way shooting guard Josh Richardson to the mix could help out a lot.
The Dallas Mavericks have received a lot of two-way value out of Richardson in his first year playing in the state of Texas. Richardson has proved at multiple stops throughout his career that he can thrive in different roles given the versatility in his game.
If the Bulls decide that they want to run more of a small ball lineup moving forward, then LaVine could play on the wing and they could have someone like Richardson running at the two. And then they could sign someone like Lonzo, Brooklyn Nets point guard Spencer Dinwiddie, etc. to start at the one next season.
Richardson is a solid two-way shooting guard that can contribute in numerous facets of the game. He averages 1.1 steals per game, 0.6 blocks per game, and shoots better than 43 percent from the field and around 36 percent from beyond the arc in his career. This is a player that does a lot of things well, but not one thing particularly great.
There’s not really a player that the Bulls have on their current roster that provides the value that Richardson could for them moving forward. If the Bulls could nab him for around $12 million per year or less this offseason, it would be worth looking into his interest in coming to Chicago.
