Underrated Chicago Bulls FA targets to watch down the stretch: Malik Monk
Another potential underrated Bulls free agent target to watch down the stretch this season that is currently on an injury report is the Charlotte Hornets emerging guard Malik Monk. Finally fulfilling some of the promise he had as a former first-round draft pick, Monk is proving that he can be more than just a sharpshooting guard for the Hornets this season.
This 6-foot-3 and 200 pound 23-year-old former Kentucky WIldcats shooting guard is having the best season of his NBA career to date with the Hornets. Monk would definitely give the Bulls something that they don’t have in their backcourt rotation at the moment coming off the bench. A volume scoring guard that can space the floor like Monk is something that only White comes close to mirroring at any one time.
But the counting stats and shooting percentages that Monk registered so far this season are much more consistent than White’s over the course of each of the last two seasons.
Monk has played really well in the just under three dozen games he seen action in with the Hornets this season. He’s averaged 13.1 points per game, 2.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 0.5 steals, and 0.1 blocks. And Monk shot 46.0 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 81.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Set to hit the restricted free agent market this offseason, Monk should one of the more intriguing free agent targets that the Bulls look into. Amid an offseason where the Bulls could have a lot of options on the restricted free agent market of guards to potentially sign, Monk and New Orleans Pelicans floor general Lonzo Ball really stick out.
