In the midst of a few injury issues for Donovan and the Bulls in the last few weeks, former Villanova Wildcats 6-foot-3 and 195 pound 27-year-old point guard Ryan Arcidiacono got more minutes off the bench. Donovan was left with little options in his backcourt rotation off the bench with both second-year point guard Coby White and veteran shooting guard Garrett Temple missing some time of late.

Arcidiacono saw his playing time spike from 28 minutes played in two games, and 37 minutes in three games, during the months of December and January to more than 250 combined in February and March. During the month of March alone, Arcidiacono played in a season-high 153 total minutes over the course of 13 games.

But all that yielded in the midst of a spike in playing time for Arcidiacono last month was a season-low 104 offensive rating, 117 defensive rating, and 45.8 true shooting percentage. Arcidiacono just hasn’t been all that efficient in general for the Bulls this season. His counting stats and shooting percentages are both down this season compared to the previous two.

It’s not like the contract of Arcidiacono, worth around $3 million annually over the course of three years, is too expensive for the team’s cap sheet moving forward. More or less the importance of getting Arcidiacono out of the rotation would be adding more depth to the backcourt next offseason.

The good news for the Bulls’ new front office regime next offseason, though, is that they have a team option for Arcidiacono for the final year of his current contract ahead of the 2021-22 season.
