Chicago Bulls best trade asset: Wendell Carter Jr.

Last but not least comes Wendell Carter Jr., who joined Coby White in a move to the bench recently. Like White, that move isn’t an indictment on the player as much as a result of the current roster Billy Donovan has at his disposal.

Don’t get me wrong, Carter Jr. has been fairly disappointing this season. That doesn’t mean he isn’t a player other franchises would value, though. In fact, he is the player on the Bulls that comes in as the team’s best trade asset ahead of the 2020-21 NBA trade deadline.

So, why is he atop the list? First and foremost is his skillset. Wendell Carter Jr. is a big man who is good at doing specific things teams around the league will always value. Most notably is his rebounding ability. One of those few things that every NBA franchise will always want more of is rebounding, and Carter Jr. is strong in that area.

Second is the skills he has displayed that lead one to believe could become featured parts of his game in coming years. For instance, his outside shooting, which has been up and down this season and currently sits at 36.4 percent. Although streaky, what’s most important is his stroke looks smooth and is something shooting coaches would love to work with and find consistency for.

Another area of promise is passing the ball and what he could develop into on defense. Again, these are all positives that only support the main reason he holds value around the league; rebounding.

He is still just 21 years old and has a full season next year on a reasonable contract before he will be set for restricted free agency. That helps boost his value to the top spot on the Bulls list of trade assets.
