Draft prospects to watch in March Madness No. 3: Evan Mobley
There’s not going to be many more raw talents in this draft class that are as promising as the former elite five-star recruit and the USC Trojans stud freshman big man Evan Mobley. This uber-talented first-year center is a native of Murrieta, CA, and stands at a towering 7-foot and 210 pounds.
Mobley might wind up being the top center prospect in this draft class, and could very well contend to be the first overall pick in the lottery. He’s that good. It just depends on the level of consistency that he shows throughout the draft scouting process and in a bright spotlight like the one he’s about to take to in the Big Dance.
Moreover, Mobley won just about every honor he could during his freshman campaign playing in the PAC-12. He was the PAC-12 Player of the Year, PAC-12 Newcomer of the Year, PAC-12 Defensive Player of the Year, and made it to the PAC-12 All-Tournament Team. That’s a really impressive list of honors for Mobley.
So far this season, Mobley averaged 16.8 points per game, 8.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and a whopping 3.0 blocks. And he shot 58.4 percent from the field, 31.4 percent from beyond the arc, and 69.5 percent from the free-throw line.
Mobley and the six-seed Trojans will face an 11-seed opposition from a play-in game in the Round of 64 come the afternoon of March 20.
