1) Looming Chicago Bulls trade deadline needs
Find the point guard of the future
Amid the biggest looming topics of discussion right now in the Bulls camp is how they can fix the point guard problem both in the near term and over the long haul. Donovan and the Bulls clearly have a problem that they need to fix in their starting five to help both this year for the playoff push and to ensure more success for the core over the long-term.
Second-year former North Carolina Tar Heels point guard Coby White is just not getting it done at the moment, thus why Sato could get the start for the Bulls in their March 14 home meeting with the Raptors. Through three dozen games played this season, White has registered a -3.3 box plus/minus rating (-0.5 lower than his rookie campaign), .049 win shares per 48 minutes, and a 12.0 player efficiency rating.
The advanced metrics for White look very similar to how they did during his rookie season, which is not a good sign for the Bulls young core.
Sato is not going to be a good long-term solution as the starting point guard for this team either. Whether it be hitting the trade market to find a more long-term solution at point guard, or at least a bridge answer like Kyle Lowry or George Hill, or somehow letting White find his way, the Bulls need help in this area of their roster.
More long-term solutions at the point guard position around the deadline for the Bulls could be one of the likes of New Orleans Pelicans two-way floor general Lonzo Ball, Brooklyn Nets standout Spencer Dinwiddie, or even Heat combo guard Kendrick Nunn. This really depends on how Karnisovas feels about White commanding the backcourt rotation over the span of the next season or two.
